Transport for Bucks launches new mobile app

Access to the latest information on roadworks, gritters and pothole repairs are now just a tap away with the launch of Transport for Buckinghamshire's new free mobile app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

The app 'TfB Service Information Centre' is being piloted until the end of August 2011. It displays up-to-date information on the latest TfB twitter alerts, shows where the TfB community gangs are working, and tracks gritters, grass cutters and road workers in real time. In addition, users can report problems on the roads, by giving an exact location and uploading photos to show the fault or issue.

TfB wants to know what people think of the app, to help improve the service in the future. Send your comments to transportforbucks@gmail.com

The app is in addition to TfB's popular Service Information Centre website, which has increased its visitors by 88% in the last year.

Valerie Letheren, Buckinghamshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport said: "The development of this app demonstrates the progress we have made over the last year. We are committed to providing residents and visitors to the county with the highest service, and we want to make as much information available as possible. This app allows users to keep informed of all aspects of our work and we are very keen to hear what people think of it."

The app can be downloaded free from Apple's iTunes store

Android phone users can look forward to a compatible release in the near future.

Computer Scams

There are countless scams on the Internet but if you are cautious and know what to look out for, you’ll always be one step ahead of the criminals. The majority of email providers and financial institutions offer a way for you to report any scams that you receive. If you receive a suspicious email, forward it to the relevant company or organisation using the details below.

Common scams today are emails wherein individuals claim to be heirs to a fortune that they cannot access. Whenever you get an email like this, you need to invoke your own internal scamwatch. Most commonly, they will request your bank information so that they can wire you some money –never give out any financial information. In other variants of the scam, you may be requested to send an initial forwarding loan amount in exchange for the right to a piece of the larger fortune, but you should NEVER send any payment either, especially by wire or cash.

Here are some useful contacts for banks, online shopping and credit cards so that you can forward your scam email on to the actual company or fraud agency:
